Makeup Collection Overhaul

“My name is Danielle and I’m a makeup hoarder.” “Hi Danielle!”

It’s way past overdue to haul out all of my makeup bags, yes you read that right, bags plural and go through everything. I don’t even really wear a lot of makeup, some days I don’t wear any! Where did this come from?!

Here are my makeup goals…

One: I want to switch over (eventually) to ALL clean beauty. I want my products to be vegan and cruelty free and also be good for my skin.

Two: I want to pare down my collection so that I just have the necessities and nothing that is going to sit there and go unused.

Whenever I minimize or downsize something I always start by finding a smaller container for those items. I find this helps in the decision making process of what to get rid of. By having the container first you know how much room you have to work with. For this product I decided I wanted all of my makeup to fit in this glass container, I wanted the few brushes I had to be able to stand upright and the rest of my makeup fits nicely!

New makeup situation! Everything is super compact and easy!

When you start a big decluttering project like this, you always have the idea, or at least I do, that it’s going to be difficult to decide what to let go of. It wasn’t—it felt freeing! Getting rid of unused or pointless items is always freeing. The thought of having less clutter to me is so motivating!

My makeup container is perfect for me. It has honestly made getting ready much simpler and faster. I no longer have to go around to different makeup bags looking for what I want, everything that I need is right there!

What did I do with the extra makeup? I passed on the good products that were mostly unused to others who I knew would get more use out of them then I did. Some products though did have to be tossed as they were too old and dried out.

Most of the items on the left got tossed as they were either super old, dried out or empty. The items on the right got passed on!

“I’ve learned that minimalism is not about what you own, it’s about why you own it.”

Brian Gardner

As always, thanks for reading!

Love, Dee
